The Story Behind Tembo Safari

After introducing you to the essence of Tembo Safari, I’d like to share a little more about our background and my personal journey with Africa.

My name is Mark Axelgaard, and I have been the owner of Tembo Safari since 2020. However, my love affair with Africa began long before that. In 2012, I set foot on Kenya’s breathtaking soil for the first time.

I still vividly remember the profound silence by the campfire at night, interrupted only by the calls of animals in the darkness. It was a moment that changed my life. I knew then that Africa would become an inseparable part of my future.

Since that first journey, I have dedicated myself to bringing the magic of Africa to adventurous souls. I’ve had the honor of crafting unforgettable journeys for many, and each trip is a new opportunity to share my passion.

My travels have taken me across Kenya’s plains, Tanzania’s national parks, Botswana’s deltas, South Africa’s coasts, Namibia’s deserts, Zimbabwe’s waterfalls, and Madagascar’s unique flora and fauna. Each destination has left an indelible mark on my soul.

The name “Tembo Safari” was chosen with intention. “Tembo” means “elephant” in Swahili, a symbol of our deep connection to this continent. With over 1,000 thrilled guests behind us, our mission is clear: to continue sharing the beauty of Africa and inspiring others with the “African fever”—an irresistible urge to return to this enchanting land again and again.
